Talking Point: Would You Be Interested In Buying A New Xbox Series X Model?

I would be interested in some official sleeves with art that could be slid down the Series X with different artwork and changed out as desired. I miss the faceplate fun of the original Xbox 360.

Nope, my series s is mostly for my 360 and og xbox games, and maybe once a year playing a new game on a free month of gamepass

I have no issue with them releasing 'custom' editions or even changing the colour. A discless 'cheaper' version maybe another option, even a new 'design' but unless they can make a significant improvement whilst keeping under $500, reducing the costs of Series S/X, I think its ridiculous to consider anything other than colour, design and/or storage/Disc Drive changes as this Gen hasn't really started 'yet' and costs have gone 'up'. Releasing a 'more expensive' Console seems a mistake right now....

As interesting looking those serving suggestions are, it's a no.
Doesn't feel like this gen has it's feet under the table yet, still has a lot of untapped potential.

Looking at the sixth console in that picture, a stick of rock from sea side springs to mind, but i am contemplating on getting the black console because the current one I have has hit the limit already with 3 games only.

That's said, going to be super lame if they do another mid gen upgrade on the Series X. And will for sure kill off any interest for me in Xbox moving forward. The point of consoles is to buy one and be set for the generation. Instead you'd have developers treating the X like and S and whatever the replacement like the X was, as an X. And the OG S would be pretty much ignored.

I'd sooner buy a new GPU for my PC.

I think Xbox are onto a winning formula imo. Release both versions at console launch. I think the only thing they will probably do different next time is making the budget console a little less budget.

Saying that, I think they simply need to alter their guidelines on parity. Developers should not be beholden to anything. If a feature (such as split screen) needs dropping to ensure a product can launch, that should be the compromise.

I would prefer Microsoft leave the aesthetic customization of their consoles to third-parties, preferably with a mechanism that doesn't void warranty. I can't imagine Microsoft is making that much more money from these products than usual and cutting in third-parties to whatever profits are to be made here can go a long way to maintaining an active community of customers, plus it would free up Microsoft to work on more innovative products, such as gamepads with gyroscopic controls and Hall effect joysticks, a proper successor to the Steel Battalion controller, new features / apps for their consoles, etc.

At this moment I don’t think there’s a need for a new Series X. I love mine, I like the color, the look, the power… I’m excited for the new games coming out, but content with the X as it is.

I barely use my XSX. I can't imagine buying a second one in a different color.

For me to be interested in an upgraded model it would have to be significant improvement. I am not sure that is possible unless AMD is hiding some kind of generational game changer that hasn't leaked.

I am curious to see what happens if Sony releases an upgraded console and Microsoft doesn't though. That will lead to some interesting marketing shenanigans I think.

I would like a Digital Series X at a reduced price but it won’t happen. I do need a second Series X as i want one downstairs in the living so when i don’t want to go upstairs to the Media room and game I don’t have too. Or the family is in there watching a movie and i want to grind some levels on Diablo 4. Otherwise i like the look and color of it as it is. Maybe a few limited editions here and there but overall it’s awesome the way it is. Fix up the Ui some more and give us the Elite 3 controller.

@AlwaysPlaying i would be up for a few upgrades to the controller even tho it’s my favorite controller ever. It’s the reason i don’t game as much on my PS4-PS5 cause i didn’t like the controllers nearly as much nor the pain they give me in my wrist and thumbs. But i could see a few improvements to the Xbox controller to make it even better as a worthy upgrade 😀

If I didn't already have a series x I would be interested in a special edition. There's no way I would get an additional x or replace my current one just because of a cosmetic design.

Any other generation and I would say yes but I don't think developers have really got to grips with the series x yet.

There are many xbox one and ps4 games that as if not very nearly as good.

If xbox develop a new series x without trying to get everything out of the series x first, I will move to PlayStation out of principal.

I’m sad I missed out on the Halo edition console (was saving up for a home at the time) but I’m fine with the standard Series X I got when I was finally in the market for one.

For anyone who got one early on, I don’t see reason to. I feel these mid gen refreshes are for new adopters who have yet to purchase one.

They are selling dirt cheap second hand, so it’s too much to lose to sell and then re buy again.

And tbh I’ve yet to see a nice one across Xbox and PS that’s worth it.

Compared to the X360 / PS3 generation, I hardly notice any improvement of graphics / frame rate performance on today’s consoles. (I do have a 4K OLED TV.)

No way I would go for any mid-generation refresh based upon such. However, what could entice me is increased internal storage. “Could” as my 2TB external HDD still works fine for storing my game library overflow.

Remember the PS4 Pro or the Xbox 1 X? Very few games ran at 60fps. Can we trust devs, publishers, and platform owners to have the newest games at 60fps for the newest games on upgraded consoles? For now, XSX is giving me that 60fps on games that I would otherwise have spend $$ on a capable video card ($600 at sales price).

Well not exactly in need for an improved model. My Series X is great as it is. Also a Slim model wouldn't make sense, the size is fine.
They don't have to repeat the last gen way and I still think it only happened, because the One and PS4 were to weak for the release time and weren't 4K ready at a time, where 4K already started.
But about the Series S, I understand why this system exists, but I don't like it either way.

Actually thinking about buying a second series X exclusively for flightsim 2020 and 2024 that comes next year. They will suck up a good portion of ssd space. But .. I could not give any **** about a color or a special edition. A big sorry for the designers but those Porsche consoles , even though they are in the proper race colors , are not very attractive imho. A mid gen upgrade is always welcome , whatever the upgrade is. Larger ssd , higher speeds , better chipset , more internal memory. Whatever they bring as an upgrade , I’ll welcome it with open arms. But a different colour or external modification is not what I’m looking for anymore. It is the inside that counts. The series X is a very capable console but there are quite a few games that have a 30fps RT mode OR a 60FPS mode without RT / lower resolution. I would rather have a console that runs all the bells and whistles than a different color.

@Scummbuddy I never did that, mainly because I was afraid of breaking it due to my disability, but I LOVED the idea, and I DID buy some custom Xboxes(the green Halo Xbox original, the red Xbox 360, the black Xbox 360 Elite, etc.)

Nope not really, I’d rather they fully utilised all the power and performance of the current Series X.

This is why i like the design of the PS5. The changeable plates are great. I had white for a while, then a TLOU plate that i had made, currently sporting a matt black design. There are loads of colours an designs available.

Maybe but only because I tend to always have 2 xboxs ...one upstairs and one down....I would replace my old Xbox one upstairs....but as for the whole pro thing ...it's just to bleed gamers dry ....we still have Xbox one and PS4 games coming out

No, if a Pro becomes available then that's a different story. But even then, we're talking very minimal improvement. Is it worth the cost or do you wait till next generation when the shelf life is back to eight years and we're talking next level stuff coming out? I mean, I don't begrudge anyone getting any Pro of any platform but we have to be realistic in our expectations for a mid-gen release and if it's actually worth it.

Absolutely not, a Series X 'pro' would be redundant at this point. We haven't even seen DEVS fully utilize the power of the current Series X or even the PS5 for that matter. Microsoft and Sony should focus on growing their console bases so DEVS can focus on optimizing games to the best of their abilities. Most games so far this generation have been cross gen so I'm assuming once last gen is gone for good we'll finally start to see games that look and feel truly significant on current gen consoles. I'd probably have bought and swapped mine. It'd be great if Microsoft extended the Design Lab to Series S. I'd like it on X too. They want to make money and sell consoles, so this aligns with that. I liked a lot of the custom models

Not for me. This generation was never a significant enough step up, and half the promises didn't materialise in the end.

I certainly wouldn't replace a console for a new one with asthenic changes only and no tangible upgrades. At least the OLED switch added a huge screen upgrade.

You are absolutely right about parity, @Kaloudz. I really wanted to buy Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox, and the fact that the Series S is preventing that is very frustrating. Xbox should have gone the same route as the PS5 discless option and had the two consoles equally capable.

I'm still hoping to see Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox at some point, but Xbox have definitely shot themselves in the foot (to some extent) as people will expect to be able to play exactly the same on both consoles. How Microsoft are going to manage this issue moving forwards, I don't know. If the Series S is causing games to entirely skip the Xbox this early in the generation, imagine how amplified the problem will become in a year or two...

XSX has a volume of 6.86 litres vs 7.2 litres on the PS5 and 6.4 litres for PS5 digital. PS5 is just an even more cumbersome shape

I don't much think about the volume of each console, what I see is the huge form factor of the PS5 next to my SX, I could probably hide a Series X & S behind the PS5....Anyway, I still lived with the VCR XBO until the X released just fine 🙂.

@Fiendish-Beaver I definitely hope they drop that clause before long. I can't see them doing it though, as it will negatively impact the S, but... if you buy the cheaper option then you should be happy with a cheaper result. I love my S but I'd be more than happy with BG3 minus split screen.

It should be released without the feature on S, to then be added later if it's absolutely necessary. Just my thoughts.

@StylesT me and my wife just bought a new house. It has an upstairs media room as that was my request or i wouldn’t have bought the house. So i have all my Surround sound, consoles etc etc in that room upstairs. Downstairs living room i want another Series X. Looks like you do that as well. May i ask. Is it hard to setup the second console to have all your games, saves etc etc on the second Xbox. Or does it pretty much just log you in and realize it’s the second console and bring everything over? I always had a one floor house and no use for two of the same system hooked up and in use. Thanks for your time with the question, i know i can just google the setup, but i like to hear from real gamers and see what the pros and cons are.

@HonestHick Your games, saves etc are all linked to your gamer tag so just log in and your new console and you will be able to download your games etc...easy

@StylesT awesome, thank you.I thought it was easy from what i looked at online. But i trust your opinion more than a random search on google. I might snag another Series X on Black Friday deals. That way our little one can watch a movie in the media room with a friend and i can game downstairs in the living room. Or heck maybe i am to lazy to go upstairs that day and just want to game downstairs haha.

I don't think they'll drop it either, @Kaloudz. It was sold on the basis of being capable of playing the same games as the X, just at a differing graphical umph, not at being incapable of playing parts of some games. Honestly think they have made a mistake, one that has probably hamstrung them for the entire generation. I cannot see them making them same mistake next generation. Then, they will make the guts the same in both consoles...

I have a series s. Works fine for me. Bought some black vinyls for it and with the storage anything that is not required to run on the internal drive just sits on my external drive.

I am open to it. Would love to see Bethesda style artwork on the console.

A White Series X? Yes.
A more powerful Series X? No.

Since it is confirmed that Sony will introduce PS5 Pro at the winter season 2024, Microsoft cannot ignore it because it might lose both gamers and developers.

Moreover, the Xbox Series X packaging boast that it has "4K 120FPS". The sad reality is that it cannot handle even [email protected] in most games without decreasing quality ("performance mode"), thus hardware upgrade could at least fulfill the promises.

Mid-gen upgrades are straight up money grabs and incredibly insulting to those that bought the next gen console.

It depends if Sony release one, if they do then yes otherwise all you will hear about are framerates and all of a sudden Terraflops will be the best thing ever again.

@Dan1283 They are releasing more 1st party exclusives, they have released 3 already this year and still have Starfield and Forza Horizon to come before November.
Sony on the other hand have released NO first party exclusives this year and only have one for the whole year.
